Yeah, it is a question of reducing unsprung weight. Less mass being moved by the rear triangle, less force is transmitted to the front triangle, just check that on every race car out there. Even if we're talking about just 200-300g, imo every bit helps.

Sick. Altough, your shock is monted the wrong way. The side of the shock that has the reservoir should be mounted to the front triangle.

Seriously, when i first read the tittle of the article i thought: Bleeding your seatpost??? Shit! how far have we come that now our seatposts (once just a tube of aluminum) are hydraulic. I can't really tell if that's a good or bad thing.

Amazing piece of engineering.

I email'd them and they said it is open to North Americans only. That really sucks. With engineering powerhouses like Germany and the UK competing, I think the stakes would be so much higher for the contest. I'm really bummed cause I was already putting down some ideas in Solidworks. They also said they're considering to make the contest worldwide next year.

Good to hear from you! Picked up a black 04 S4 put exhaust flash and sway bars on it, fun car real torquey, a lil heavy though. Send me pics of your car.......

Yeah man, some of my best memories from uni are from the FS workshop.
The best tip i can give you is to keep your concepts simple but and thoroughly understand all the implication.
For example statically you might think you car has enough camber recovery/compensation in roll but you will find that as the car accelerates out of the corner you need more as there is additional lateral acceleration whilst the suspension is already loaded.
Also damper tuning is massively important on these cars, aim to have the car critically damped or slightly under damped, that way the force at the tyre contact point see the least variation and so you maintain a more consistent and higher grip level. Getting on a damper dyno will improve your knowledge of dampers and suspension by miles.

After i graduated i worked at the uni as a researcher for a year and a bit. Now im working freelance in design, whilst trying to break into an F1 team.

That sounds good, i was thinking to order tubes from Nova Cycles last year, you can try them also, maybe you can get even better deal.

Thats a good method. I had been sticking with the specific planes to allow easy tube thickness changes, for calculating mass properties. Happy to see another SW user onboard!
